Yoga for Mental Health – Teacher Training

We are excited to announce our NEW BESPOKE teacher training package working in partnership with Be Well.
This course is for certified yoga teachers who want to enhance their current skill set

Together, yoga and the mental healthcare system have the potential to create a state of warm, connected presence during dis-balanced moments in our lives.

This training is designed to support you – the yoga teacher- in working with yourself and your students intelligently and with common sense while motivating yourself with kindness rather than criticism. In

this training, you will dive into the holistic framework of yoga. You will discuss safety, trauma, psychotic vulnerability, depression, addiction (change management), stress and burn-out in relationship to how yoga can support and assist the return to a balanced state of emotional well-being.

1 in 4 of all adults experience a mental health issue each year. With GP’s prescribing mood enhancing activities such as yoga, mindfulness and meditation as a first step towards recovery, the number of people accessing your yoga sessions who are living with mental ill health will be far more than 1 in 4.

Would you know how to support someone in a mental health crisis?

Being able to spot those signs and symptoms effectively; knowing how to offer appropriate support whilst maintaining professional boundaries and knowing where individuals could be directed for further support. This could potentially save a life. With suicide rates at a 16 year high, we all have a part to play and it is only together that we can make a difference.

This is why we are excited to offer on our unique, bespoke training opportunity,  the FULL two day Mental Health First Aid course alongside practical application in a studio setting delivered by a yoga master trainer with over 10 years experience.

Course Content

Be Well are delivering the internationally recognised adult mental health first aid course.
Both instructors are licensed and  accredited through Public Health.
Holly has a psychology degree with 10 years experience in education, whilst Nikki has 17 years working in workforce development delivering training around mental health, autism and much more.
The depth of the course is quite significant, we talk in detail about the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, self harm, eating disorders, psychosis and suicide. Participants then learn a five step action plan to help them support someone towards recovery. This ranges from those early signs and the importance of self care right up to how to support in a suicidal crisis. The learning is a mix of discussion, activities, case studies and taught sections.
You would also get a comprehensive manual to keep.
Victoria has over 20 years experience in the health and wellness industry, qualified nutritionist and have completed further training in nutrition and mental health – an area which she is extremely passionate about.
Victoria is level 4 Pilates and back care specialist, level 3 personal trainer and qualified in yoga 8 years ago. Victoria has been running Revive yoga school now for 5 years and have delivered 8 x 200hour yoga teacher training courses.
Victoria has worked extensively with people living with cancer  and cancer survivors, many of whom have to work through the emotional and mental health issues associated with illness eg depression, anxiety, body image.
Revive covers a basic yoga for mental health module on the 200 hour YTT programme, however due to increased interest in specifically adapting yoga practices for mental health…..more yoga teachers are questioning whether and how yoga can help with eating disorders, coping with trauma, etc.  Yoga teachers and students are increasingly curious about the growing body of research literature, which is finding positive support for yoga as means to manage symptoms of mental health conditions, and wonder how to best apply what they are reading.
Mental health is a taboo topic and a large number of teachers are uncomfortable talking and asking about personal and distressing matters.  They fear saying the wrong thing and either ignore the crying person in the room, or overly respond making him or her even more uncomfortable.  Feeling more confident knowing what might help to do and say, and how to more reliably create the conditions for a positive experience, go along way toward helping a well-meaning teacher become a more benefical teacher.
We hope to share this and more on the course
The course is spread over 2 weekends, 100% attendance is required. There is no formal assessment but some homework Is given between the 2 weekends and There is also some pre course reading to be undertaken

Aug 2017 course

I have a fitness background and it was a struggle for me to embrace and learn all of the philosophy. The course was much more intense that I originally anticipated, it was a lot of work but so worth it. I have grown so much as a person and as a teacher and I have learnt so much about anatomy, teaching cues, class planning. I would thoroughly recommend this course
